Pollutant sources are many & varied in today’s world. External [outside the home] environments such as automobile exhaust, primarily nitrogen oxides, and smoke stack emissions, primarily sulfur dioxide from burning fossil fuels eventually end up, to some degree, inside the home. These pollutants are known to easily penetrate to a building's interior except in situations where the air handling system has been designed to remove them; they tend to be limited to larger galleries and museums. Pollutants inside the home include by-products from air-fresheners, cleaning solutions, construction or renovation and painting, cooking, furniture & carpeting, etc. In addition to these are the by products released from the framed piece(s) itself: inks & paints, moulding, matting, mounting products, etc.
The white beveled edge of the mats remain white & not deteriorate & turn “brown-ish” over time as do regular paper mats. The surface color of the mats is “fade-resistant” thereby giving long-lasting “same as the day it was framed” appearance for many years to come.
